Today Doesn’t Count

Today Doesn’t Count was a punk band with a not-so-“typical Gainesville”-sound. Featuring Jon DeCarmine on bass, Sterling Stokes and JC Kirwan on guitars, and Dan Haddock on drums (who would later be replaced by Eric Cheek), this foursome managed to kick out anthemic punk rock jams that made goosebumps cover my skin on every listen (it still does…). They broke up in 2004. They reunited to play a benefit show for the Gainesville Music Archive in 2011. Horrible quality videos of that show can be found on youtube here (but a word of warning… turn your speakers down).

The lyrics (though often unintelligible) are very profound and uniquely structured… often following no rhyming scheme.

Notable tracks (the songs I would first recommend a new listener to listen to):
Chaos, Destruction, And The Pursuit Of Happiness
An America’s Cup For The Dying
Another Wasted Page
Tired Thoughts On Days Of Thanks

I hope you enjoy this band. They have changed my life.
